UNESCO World Heritage Site and \u2018Wonder of the World\u2019 Angkor Wat is the main attraction, and rightly so. Visitors can spend days marveling at the many ancient temples in Angkor Archeological Park. What an amazing place that should be on every traveler\u2019s \u2018bucket list\u2019! <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But then what? What else is there to experience in Siem Reap? The most common answer you\u2019ll get is \u201cPub Street\u201d or \u201cspa\u201d, but is that it? Is that what you traveled so far for? How do you discover Siem Reap beyond the temples?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chances are that if you\u2019re reading this, you\u2019re probably eager to find ways to get the most out of your travel experience. You\u2019ll want to see and do more than what is on the basic tour schedule. Here are some tips on how to find the best and most interesting sights, activities, and experiences that most visitors miss. Discover Siem Reap like the locals do.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10119\" src=\"https:\/\/pharecircus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/boy-1986107_1920.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1281\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the Web<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good places to learn about interesting attractions and activities are websites like TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, Rusty Compass or other online travel guides. These are great places to read objective reviews on recommended tourist sights and activities that shouldn\u2019t be missed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, if you\u2019re looking to dive into a more local, rustic and authentically Khmer experience, you will have to do a bit more research to scratch beneath the surface and get beyond the tourist sights. But it\u2019s well worth it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go where the locals Go<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is an amazingly vibrant, active community in Siem Reap with something going on pretty much every day: art exhibits, stand-up comedy, movie nights (like movies about Cambodian 60\u2019s Rock &amp; Roll or Cambodian wildlife), live jazz and other concerts, yoga or Zumba classes, costume parties, trivia nights for charity, and get a traditional Khmer tattoo. The list is endless. There are annual events like the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giant Puppet Parade<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Water Festival and the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ChubMet Music Festival<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So where does one find out about all these interesting things to do in Siem Reap that aren\u2019t in the tourist guide books? <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10120\" src=\"https:\/\/pharecircus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/social-media-1806995_1920-copy.jpg\" alt=\"SOCIAL MEDIA\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go Social<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A couple web sites worth checking out are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.siemreap.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SiemReap.net<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.movetocambodia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Move to Cambodia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These web sites are managed by expats living in Siem Reap who have their finger on the pulse of the city. These are great resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most Cambodians and Expats go to Facebook to find out what\u2019s happening around town. There are several useful Facebook groups with posts about events around the city: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/watsup.reapers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wat\u2019s Up! &#8211; Siem Reap<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/siemreap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Expats and Locals Living in Siem Reap<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are two of the most useful with new events being posted every day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the best places in town to go and find out what\u2019s happening is <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelittleredfoxespresso.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Little Red Fox Espresso<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in \u2018Kandal Village\u2019, a favorite spot for many expats living in Siem Reap. The proprietors themselves are engaged in many of the local events. There are lots of flyers and posters about activities around town. If it\u2019s happening in Siem Reap, they\u2019ll know about it!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you can see, there\u2019s a lot to discover in Siem Reap beyond Angkor Wat and Pub Street.
