PPS has been providing free artistic, formal education and social support to these young artists since they were young. For most of them this has been for the past 7 year. As part of their graduation process and, to help them best prepare themselves to excel in their careers, Phare Ponleu Selpak and Phare Performing Social Enterprise joined hands in organizing two consecutive workshops on Professionalism, Personal Development and Leadership.

“We are excited and stand ready to work with them to help them build their careers. Join us in developing and enriching human resources for the future of Cambodia.” said Dara HUOT, Co-Director of PPSE.

The next workshop is for Generation 1, 2 & 3 artists on “Personal Development and Leadership”

Part of the workshop is on thinking and learning. They have participated in the arts of learning to:

1. Reflect about themselves and explore their inner resources and potential;
2. Understand that thinking has no limit. With the right thoughts and actions, even with limited physical resources, many things are achievable;
3. Understand that thought affects the qualities of their performance and life; and with the right thoughts, they can significantly contribute to personal and collective development;
4. Understand and be able to use positive thinking, creative thinking and critical thinking skills.
5. Pathways to achievement– People achieve differently with various degrees of efforts.
6. Dealing with negative thinking: Stress and worries
7. Understand the importance of education and how it can contribute to personal and collective growth
8. Understand themselves better, and realize that they can learn anything they want to
9. Understand how to learn effectively, including how brain works and adopting the reading habit
10. Set learning goals to improve their learning after the course

Overwhelmingly positive feedback has been received after the workshop. One artist wrote “Thank you very much for this opportunity to learn to understand myself better. I now am confident that I can be who I want to be and that learning doesn’t stop after our graduation. The trainer helped me to set goals and action plans, differentiate right thinking from the wrong ones. Now I want to know 50 or 100 more things than what I am taught. Learning and self-development is everywhere and with everyone around me. It is not only in the classroom.”

One very pleasant thing that moved us the most was one artist who does not read and write Khmer has decided to purchase a personal development book from the class to read at home. When asked, he answered “I can read a little bit, I’ll try to read this book!”

Everyone in Phare Ponleu Selpak and Phare Performing Social Enterprise welcome them to the world of adults, careers and responsibilities.
