KHMER ANGKOR VILLAGE<\/h1>\n

Artists portray daily life in a rural, Cambodian village. Through drama, dance, live music and circus, they express how traditional values, culture and Buddhist beliefs guide personal and community relationships. \u200b Khmer Angkor Village is a light-hearted,\u00a0 cabaret-style performance, fun-for-all ages.<\/p>\n

Backdrops hand-painted by Phare Ponleu Selpak<\/a> graduate, artist Heng Serey Sokun<\/em><\/p>\n

The 2 original artworks onstage are the powerful serpents, or Nagas. They stand tall, proud and powerfully at the entrances to the temples. Nagas are significant mythical character in Cambodian culture. They are guardians of the temples. The artworks were originally created by Phare co-founders and visual arts students more than 10 years ago for live performance production. The painting offers a modern conceptual representation of this deeply cultural mythical animal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The late Lokkru SREY Bandaul, Lokkru TOR Vutha, Lokkru LON Lor and Phare visual arts teachers and students worked with performing arts students and Lokkru KHUON Det to research the identity of the serpents in many pagodas in Battambang\u2026. They tested the idea of imaginative sketch of the serpents and played with color combination.\u00a0<\/p>\n
